The ruling on one who does not sniff water into the nose out of fear of harm to the nasal passages

The questioner: Some people do not sniff water into the nose out of fear that the water will harm their nasal passages. Is the wudu' valid or not?The Shaykh: Does not sniff water into the nose out of fear of the water? The questioner: The water harms him.

The Shaykh: The nasal passages? The questioner: The nasal passages.

The Shaykh: No, it is possible for water to enter between the nostrils even if he does not sniff it in.

The questioner: Meaning, there is no need to sniff it in. The Shaykh: Yes, that is right.
As long as he knows that it causes him harm; because some people have sinuses in their nasal passages, and if water enters them, they are harmed by it.

The questioner: He has no harm, but he is afraid, like small children? The Shaykh: Small children.

The questioner: They do not sniff it in, but he is afraid.

The Shaykh: In any case, if it is merely a delusion, it is not considered, and his wudu' is not valid. He must ensure that water reaches the inside of the nostrils; this is obligatory.

The questioner: Close or far?The Shaykh: Close. This obligation does not require it to reach the nasal passages.
