General advice from the Shaykh to those present, specifically, and to Muslims in general, regarding the state of alienation in which the Muslim lives and the evils he encounters.

The questioner: All right, my Shaykh, praise be to Allah, our Lord has guided me and I have proposed marriage, but I am only halfway there.

The Shaykh: What Allah willed, may Allah bless you and bless upon you and bring you together in goodness.

The questioner: If Allah wills, I noticed that in the proposal, or the proposal ceremonies, there is a lot of ...

The Shaykh: Do not say al-khutbah, say al-khitbah. Al-khutbah is the Friday sermon, whereas al-khitbah is the marriage proposal.

The questioner: Excuse me ... My brother Zakariya in the UAE, to a point that is not disconnected.

The Shaykh : Welcome.

The questioner: I noticed that many of the ceremonies in the proposal, I mean, I feel that they are outside of Islam or the religion or ... What is your comment on this?

The Shaykh: This is how it is in all countries, and therefore the Muslim today, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Islam began as something strange and will go back to being strange, so glad tidings to the strangers.
Sunan Ibn Majah 3987Hasan (Darussalam)
, "Blessed are the strangers." They said, "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He had two answers for the two occasions; once he answered (peace and blessings be upon him) by saying:
They are a few righteous people among many people, whose disobedience to them is greater than their obedience to them.
, "These are the true strangers, and the closest form of alienation is for the Muslim to be a stranger among his family, not in his neighborhood, not in his village, not in his city, not in his region, but among his family, between his mother and father and his relatives; this is the ultimate alienation. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So blessed are the strangers
Why? He said:
Blessed are the strangers.
? To strengthen them, to encourage their patience, and to establish them in their alienation. The general interpretation of "Tuba" is the colloquial phrase "Haniyalu" (blessed is he), but its legal interpretation is as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Tuba is a tree in Paradise under which a fast rider passes in its shade and does not pass it in a hundred years.
. This is an allusion that Paradise and its eternal bliss are for these strangers, whose characteristics are:
A few righteous people, among many people, who disobey them more than obey them
And among their characteristics—and this is much more important—he (peace and blessings be upon him) said on another occasion:
they will set right the corruptions caused in my sunna by people after my death
Mishkat al-Masabih 170Isnād Da'īf Jiddan (Zubair `Aliza'i)
This is the jihad today: to repair what people have corrupted. The poet says, "Can the perfumer repair what time has corrupted?" Yes, our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) used to send messengers and dispatch prophets and send down books from time to time to revive the hearts of people. And thus is the Sunnah of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in His creation: He sealed the prophets with His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but He left behind his Prophet scholars, describing them as the heirs of the prophets, because the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family) said:
Indeed Messenger-ship and Prophethood have been terminated, so there shall be no Messenger after me, nor a Prophet.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2272Sahih (Darussalam)
, but he said in another hadith:
I have left you upon a white, clear path, its night like its day, no one goes astray.
, and in a narration:
No one deviates from it except one who is destroyed.
; therefore, the scholars are those who hold fast to the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and follow his guidance. These are the ones who repair what people have corrupted of his Sunnah (peace and blessings be upon him) after him. So what you pointed out, from actions, or rather evils, that occur in the proposal, in weddings, in condolences, and in all matters of religion, is a matter of no concern; and therefore, it was among Allah's (Mighty and Majestic) success for me that He inspired me, about forty years ago, to write a small booklet for one of my brothers on the occasion of his wedding to his wife. I had named it "The Etiquettes of the Wedding." It was a small booklet, and our brother did a good deed by printing this message at his own expense and distributing it to the wedding guests in place of the clothes and sweets. Then, yes, how?

The questioner: I mean, the complete benefit would be if a tape were recorded of what is required of a person when he wants to propose marriage, so that it can spread among people or be distributed in such gatherings now. I mean, what does he do when he wants to propose to this girl? How does he call her family? What does he say? How is the marriage finalized? Where is it finalized? Because now, due to their ignorance, Muslims have put in a substitute here, for example, they bring a duff and call it Islamic, here they bring songs, they put in a substitute, but it is not Sharia-compliant.

The Shaykh: May Allah reward you with good. I ask for success for me.

The questioner: Amen, O Lord.

The Shaykh: But I remind you of His saying (the Exalted):
We will strengthen your arm through your brother
[Al-Qasas 28:35]
, so what is your opinion? Give me the main points and I will follow them then.

The questioner: Do not burden me with what I cannot do.

The Shaykh: No.

The questioner: If you want me to get married, you give me the message.

The Shaykh: Hehe, okay. We need to go back to our brother, we need to go back to our brother Zakariya.

The questioner : Ready.
