Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And the begetter and what he begets)]
Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Balad: 3] : That is: And I swear by the begetter and what he begets. So who is meant by the begetter? And who is meant by the offspring? It is said: The begetter refers to Adam.
And by the offspring: The offspring of Adam.
And on this basis, (what) means (who), that is: And the begetter and who begets; because (who) is for those of intellect, and (what) is for those without intellect.
And it was said: The begetter and what he begets refers to every begetter and what he begets; humans, livestock, and everything; because both the begetter and the offspring are among the signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). How does this offspring come out alive, sound, hearing, and seeing, from a drop of fluid and from water? And this is evidence of the perfection of the power of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), where this sound offspring comes out from a drop of fluid, [Surah Ya-Sin: 77] , likewise the insects, and others; they come out weak and frail, then they grow to whatever limit Allah the Exalted wills.
Therefore: The correct view is that this is general, encompassing every begetter and every offspring.
Allah the Exalted said:
And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَAnd by the offspring: The offspring of Adam.
Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once he is a clear adversary?
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُبِينٌTherefore: The correct view is that this is general, encompassing every begetter and every offspring.
