Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And know that there is among you a Messenger of Allah. If he were to obey you in much of the matter, you would fall into error”]
We begin this session by discussing what is feasible of the exegesis of the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He: [Al-Hujurat: 7] , As you know, this verse came after the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Hujurat: 6] .
And the reason for the above is: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed about a group of people of something that was not in them, so Allah the Exalted commanded him to verify the news when it is brought by someone whose integrity is not known. It seems that some of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) wanted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to punish these people about whom he was informed, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do so after the verse was revealed to him: [Al-Hujurat: 6] .
But the lesson is in the generality of the wording,And it is his saying: [Al-Hujurat: 7] meaning: It would be difficult for you [what you are asking of the Messenger] (peace and blessings be upon him).
And this has many examples: -Among them: That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood with his Companions in Ramadan, praying the night prayer with them, and then he left while there remained of the night what remained,They said: (O Messenger of Allah! If you would grant us the rest of our night -Meaning: They asked him to lead them in prayer for the entire night -But he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: Whoever stands in prayer with the imam until he concludes is written for him the standing of the night) And he did not agree to their request, because of the hardship and difficulty involved in it.
And among them: That a group of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired about his private deeds -Meaning: What is not apparent to people - which is the worship he performs in his home, so it seems they found it too easy,So they said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah has forgiven him what has passed of his sin and what is to come -Meaning: And as for them, they did not have that -So one of them said: (I fast and I do not break the fast,And the second said: And I stand in prayer and I do not sleep,And the third said: And I do not marry women,So that reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: But as for me, I fast and I break the fast, I stand in prayer and I sleep, and I marry women. So whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me) So he warned them against doing a deed that would be difficult for them.
And from that also: The hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that it reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (That he would fast during the day and stand in prayer during the night as long as he lives,So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called him and said: Did you say this?He said: Yes,He said: You cannot bear that) Then he guided him to what is better and easier.
And the conclusion: That there were among the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) those with high aspirations, but the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not obey them in much of the matter, because it would be difficult for them if he obeyed them.
We begin this session by discussing what is feasible of the exegesis of the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And know that among you is the Messenger of Allah. If he were to obey you in much of the matter, you would be in difficulty, but Allah has endeared to you the faith and has made it pleasing in your hearts and has made hateful to you disbelief, defiance and disobedience. Those are the [rightly] guided.
O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.
And the reason for the above is: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed about a group of people of something that was not in them, so Allah the Exalted commanded him to verify the news when it is brought by someone whose integrity is not known.
