The Meaning of His Saying: (Do not sell what is not with you)]

In some commercial establishments now, the buyer goes to purchase a certain item from the seller, and the seller says to him: Wait a moment, and he goes and brings the item from another shop. What is the ruling on this? Does it fall under the forward sale (salam) in this case, or not?

As for if they conclude a contract, this is not permissible due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Do not sell what is not with you). And as for if they make an appointment and he says: Come to me after the 'Asr prayer, for example, and he requested it from him in the morning with the intention that he would buy this item and sell it to him after the 'Asr prayer, then there is no harm in that; because no contract has taken place.

And the answer: The important thing is that there be no contract between them before the item arrives, and the promise of each one of them does not bind the other,But he said: if Allah wills, I will bring it to you at the end of the day. If the man went and requested to buy and bought from another,What the other one said to him: Why do you buy? We ask Allah to provide us with beneficial knowledge and righteous knowledge,And be glad with good, for: (Whoever takes a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise) .
And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and all his Companions.
