Ruling on Buying from Shops That Sell Forbidden Items

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Some shops sell forbidden items, like magazines and tobacco?

Answer:
You buy from them the permissible item. You buy the permissible item if they sell it. You buy good things from them. If they sell good magazines, you buy them. If they sell good books, you buy them. If they sell vessels, you buy them. But do not buy tobacco, and do not buy forbidden items. Advise them, disapprove of their actions, and teach them what is good.
Q: There are small shops next to them, meaning, to encourage these small shops that do not sell tobacco and magazines?
The Shaykh: There is no harm. You buy from these and from those. If you encourage the good ones, that is good. But it may be that the one who has good goods has them at a high price, and the one who has bad goods has them cheaper. There is no harm on you. The Jews are among the most disbelieving of people, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought from them.
Q: Are they not boycotted for the sake of discipline, O Shaykh?
The Shaykh: If he sees the benefit in that, there is no harm.
