Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (Their food will be nothing but thorny shrubs)
As for their food, Allah the Exalted said: [al-Ghashiyah: 6-7] (Thorny shrubs) They said: It is a thorny tree; when it dries out, animals do not graze on it, but if it is green, camels graze on it. It is called (al-Shubriq) among us. So the people of the Fire—may Allah protect us from it—are in the Fire of Jahannam, and their food is nothing but this thorny shrub. But do not think that the thorny shrub in the Fire of Jahannam is like the thorny shrub in this world; rather, it differs from it greatly. And for this he said: [al-Ghashiyah: 7] It does not fatten the bodies in their appearance, [al-Ghashiyah: 7] nor does it benefit them in their inner selves. So there is no good in it; it contains nothing but thorns and severe swallowing, bitterness, and a foul smell from which they derive no benefit.
Then Allah the Mighty and Majestic mentioned the second category of people on the Day of the Overwhelming Calamity, saying: [al-Ghashiyah: 8] We will complete the explanation of the remaining verses—Allah willing—in the next session. We ask Allah to protect us and you from the Fire, and to grant us and you the abode of permanence. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
As for their food, Allah the Exalted said:

لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ ضَرِيعٍ * لا يُسْمِنُ وَلا يُغْنِي مِنْ جُوعٍit fattens not
لا يُسْمِنُnor avails against hunger.
وَلا يُغْنِي مِنْ جُوعٍThen Allah the Mighty and Majestic mentioned the second category of people on the Day of the Overwhelming Calamity, saying:
