Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And the ten nights)]

His saying, the Exalted:
and ten nightsوَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
[Al-Fajr:2] It was said: The intended meaning of the ten nights is the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, and the word "nights" was used for "days" because the Arabic language is broad; "nights" may be used to mean "days," and "days" may be used to mean "nights."And it was said: The intended meaning of the ten nights is the last ten nights of Ramadan.

As for the first opinion, those who say: The intended meaning of the ten nights is the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah; for the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are noble days, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said regarding them: (There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days,They said: nor jihad in the cause of Allah? He said: What about jihad in the cause of Allah, except for a man who goes out with his person and his wealth and returns with nothing.)

And as for those who said: The intended meaning of the ten nights is the last ten nights of Ramadan. So they said: The original meaning of "nights" is nights, not days.

And they said: The last ten nights of Ramadan contain Laylat al-Qadr, about which Allah said that it is
better than a thousand months.خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
[Al-Qadr:3] and that it is:
blessedمُبَارَكَةٍ
[Ad-Dukhan:3] and He said:
On that night is made distinct every precise matter -فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ
[Ad-Dukhan:4] This opinion is stronger than the first opinion, even though the first opinion is the view of the majority. However, the wording does not support the view of the majority; rather, the second opinion is preferred, which is that the nights are the last ten of Ramadan. Allah swore by them because of their honor; because they contain Laylat al-Qadr; and because the Muslims conclude the month of Ramadan with them, which is the time of an obligatory duty and a pillar of Islam. Therefore, Allah swore by these nights.
