Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And the even and the odd)
And as for His saying: [Al-Fajr: 3] It was said: The intended meaning is that all creation is either even or odd,And Allah Mighty and Majestic says: [Adh-Dhariyat: 49] and acts of worship are either even or odd, so the intended meaning of the even and the odd is everything that is created, whether even or odd, and everything that is prescribed, whether even or odd.
And it was said: The intended meaning of the even is: all of creation; And the intended meaning of the odd is: Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
And know that his saying: (And the odd) There are two correct readings, which are: (And the odd [al-witr] and the odd [al-watr]) meaning: If you say: (And the even and the odd [al-witr]) it is correct,And if you say: (And the even and the odd [al-watr]) it is also correct,So they said: that the even is the creation; because all created things are composed of two things,Allah the Exalted said: [Adh-Dhariyat: 49] (And the odd [al-watr] or the odd [al-witr]) is Allah,By the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Indeed, Allah is the Odd and loves the odd) And if a verse can be understood in two meanings and there is no contradiction between them, then it should be attributed to all the meanings the verse can bear. This is the rule in the science of exegesis: if a verse can be understood in two meanings and one does not contradict the other, it is attributed to both meanings.
And as for His saying:
And the even and the odd
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِAnd of all things We created two mates
وَمِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِAnd it was said: The intended meaning of the even is: all of creation; And the intended meaning of the odd is: Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
And know that his saying: (And the odd) There are two correct readings, which are: (And the odd [al-witr] and the odd [al-watr]) meaning: If you say: (And the even and the odd [al-witr]) it is correct,And if you say: (And the even and the odd [al-watr]) it is also correct,So they said: that the even is the creation; because all created things are composed of two things,Allah the Exalted said:
