Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment)
Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Fajr: 13] “Poured upon them”: It is well known that pouring comes from above. The punishment that came to these people came from above, from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And “a scourge of punishment”: A scourge is a stick with which one strikes. It is known that striking with a stick is a type of punishment. This scourge that Allah the Exalted poured upon 'Aad, Thamud, and Pharaoh is not like the common stick we know; rather, it is a stick of punishment by which Allah the Exalted destroyed them and annihilated them.
We ask Allah the Exalted to make what has happened to the nations before us a lesson for us and for you, so that we may be admonished by it, benefit from it, and be obedient to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and not transgressors. Indeed, He is capable of all things. And may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍWe ask Allah the Exalted to make what has happened to the nations before us a lesson for us and for you, so that we may be admonished by it, benefit from it, and be obedient to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and not transgressors.
