The third question of Fatwa No. ( 4285 )
Q3: A man entered the mosque and found a group of young men, the oldest of whom was twelve years old. Is the imamah of this young man, who is twelve years old, valid?
A3: The imamah of a boy who understands the prayer is valid; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The people should be lead by the one who is most well-Versed in recitation of the Book of Allahيؤم القوم أقرؤهم لكتاب الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 980Sahih (Darussalam)
The hadith, and because it is established in (Sahih al-Bukhari) from 'Umar ibn Salama al-Jarmi who said: My father came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: He heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
When the prayer is established, let the one among you with the most Qur'an lead you. He said: So they looked and did not find anyone with more Qur'an than me, so they put me forward, and I was six or seven years old.إذا حضرت الصلاة فليؤمكم أكثركم قرآنًا، قال: فنظروا فلم يجدوا أحدًا أكثر مني قرآنًا فقدموني وأنا ابن ست أو سبع سنين
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
