The Ruling on Zihar and Mention of Its Expiation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The ruling on zihar is that we tell him: your wife is not forbidden to you by this statement, but it is not permissible for you to touch her, meaning to have intercourse with her, until you do what Allah has commanded you to do. What has Allah commanded?
First, freeing a slave. If he does not find one, then fasting two consecutive months. If he is unable to do that, then feeding sixty poor people. Before that, it is not permissible for him; it is not permissible for him to have intercourse with her. The scholars said that it is also not permissible for him to do the preliminaries of intercourse, such as kissing, touching, embracing, and the like, though there is disagreement among them regarding this issue, namely the preliminaries of intercourse. And there is a text in the Book of Allah that intercourse is forbidden, as He said:
before they touch one another من قبل أن يتماسا
[Al-Mujadila 58:3]
Okay, so he remains away from his wife for two months until he fasts?
And the answer is yes, he remains away. And this is how he was treated because of what he brought upon himself. Why does he say to his wife, "You are to me as the back of my mother"? This is the expiation that Allah has made obligatory upon him before he touches his wife.
