What is zihar from women

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 19314 )
Q3: What is zihar from women, and is the phrase: (like my mother) a type of zihar, and what is the ruling? And if he has become accustomed to this phrase but he does not mean that his wife is like his mother to him, what is the ruling?
A3: First: Zihar is: when a man likens his wife to someone whose marriage is forbidden to him, such as his mother, sister, or the like. Second: Saying: (You are like my mother) is zihar, unless he intends that she is like his mother in honor and love or the like, in which case it is not zihar. It is better to avoid such phrases and substitute them with others that suffice for them, without any harm or ambiguity.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
