The ruling on a traveler praying two rak'ahs behind a resident imam and not completing the prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: For example, I passed through a village while traveling, and its people were residents praying the 'Asr prayer. I caught up with them for two rak'ahs. Am I required to complete the four rak'ahs, or is it sufficient for me to stick to the two rak'ahs?

Meaning: A traveler catches up with residents in the last two rak'ahs. Does he say the taslim with the imam, thereby having prayed two rak'ahs, or does he make up what he missed? We say: He must make up what he missed; it is obligatory.Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Whatever you catch up with, pray, and whatever you miss, complete) And Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) was asked: [What is the matter with a man who prays—meaning a traveler—two rak'ahs, while the imam prays four? He said: That is the Sunnah] .
