The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, He sees them, he and his tribe”

His Eminence the Shaykh: What is meant by the saying of Allah the Exalted in Surat al-A'raf:
Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see themإِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا تَرَوْنَهُمْ
[al-A'raf: 27]?The Shaykh: It means that Satan sees us, while we do not see him.

The questioner: And what is meant by “his tribe”?The Shaykh: The tribe is of his kind, and it refers to his offspring. And the meaning is: We are to be wary of Satan; for he sees us, while we do not see him. He may be near us, and we are unaware. So Allah the Mighty and Majestic warned us of this, so that we take precautions against yielding to Satan and his commands.

The questioner: Does his saying, “from where you do not see them”, imply that it is impossible for humans to see the jinn? The Shaykh: That is the general rule, but Allah the Exalted may reveal them to people, and people may see them.
