The ruling on one who vowed to fast and wants to change it to charity
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: What is the ruling on a vow,Who said: if such and such happens, I will fast for a month, and the thing he wanted happened and he tried to change this month, so should he give charity? The Shaykh: No, he must fast the month, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him) And this vow is gratitude to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for the blessing that came to him. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade vows, because a person always vows and then regrets it and it becomes difficult for him to fulfill his vow, so he sins.Have you not seen the saying of Allah the Exalted:
[At-Tawbah: 75-77] And refuge is sought in Allah. So, a vow is originally forbidden and disliked. And if it is a vow of obedience, it is obligatory for the person to fulfill it.
Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You. We testify that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.
And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah: "If He gives us of His bounty, we will surely give charity and will surely be among the righteous." But when He gave them of His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away, while they were turning aside. So He caused hypocrisy to enter their hearts until the Day they will meet Him.
Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You. We testify that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.
