What is the ruling on wearing a watch plated with gold or with yellow that resembles gold?The Shaykh: As for the woman, there is nothing wrong with it if it is not a men's watch. However, for men, if it is plated with a coating that resembles gold but is not gold, there is nothing wrong with it; but we advise against wearing it. This is because whoever sees it assumes it is gold, and in that case, if the man is a role model, people will follow his example and say: "There is nothing wrong with gold." And if he is not a role model, it will become a cause of schadenfreude for people, and they will talk about him. Praise be to Allah, there are many watches that are not plated with this type. As for if it is plated with gold, we look at whether the gold has thickness; if it does, it is not permissible at all. If it is merely a color, it is permissible, but we advise against it for the reason we mentioned.
