Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And the agony of death has come)]
Allah the Exalted said: [Q:19] :-The agony here is: covering of the mind, like fainting and the like,And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Indeed, death has agonies) and on this basis, His saying: : is singular and possessive, encompassing one or more.
And his statement: : meaning: that death is a reality, as stated in the hadith: (Death is a reality, Paradise is a reality, and the Fire is a reality) , so it comes with the truth, and it also comes with the truth of certainty; for when a person is at the point of death, he sees what he was threatened with and what he was promised; for if he was a believer, he is given glad tidings of Paradise, and if he was a disbeliever, he is given glad tidings of the Fire, may Allah protect us and you from it.
meaning: death.
[Qaf 50:19] The exegetes differed regarding (MA) whether it is a negation,So the meaning is: that which you cannot turn away from, nor be separated from,or is it a relative pronoun, and the meaning is: that which you used to turn away from; but there is no escape from it.
So on the first view: the meaning of the verse would be: that which you cannot turn away from, but rather it is inevitable,And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Jumu'ah:8] ,And reflect, my brother:[Al-Jumu'ah 62:8] and He did not say: for it will overtake you. What do you think of something you flee from, yet it meets you? Indeed, your fleeing from it means your approaching it in reality. If you were fleeing from something and it was facing you, the faster you ran, the faster you would meet it,And for this he said: .
In the second verse:[An-Nisa 4:78] ; because in this second verse, it is mentioned that no matter how fortified a person is, death will overtake him in any case.
Here it says: THAT IS WHAT YOU USED TO TURN AWAY FROM [Q:19] meaning: that which you have no escape from.
The second meaning of (MA) : that it is a relative pronoun,Yes: that which you used to turn away from and flee from in your life has reached you and overtaken you.
And in any case, the verse contains a warning against being negligent in righteous deeds, and being lazy in repentance, and that a person must hasten; for he does not know when death will come to him.
Allah the Exalted said:
And the intoxication of death
وَجَاءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِthe intoxication of death
سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِAnd his statement:
with the truth
بِالْحَقِّthat
ذَلِكَwhat you were trying to avoid.
مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُSo on the first view: the meaning of the verse would be: that which you cannot turn away from, but rather it is inevitable,And Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you.
قُلْ إِنَّ الْمَوْتَ الَّذِي تَفِرُّونَ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مُلاقِيكُمْSay, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you.
قُلْ إِنَّ الْمَوْتَ الَّذِي تَفِرُّونَ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مُلاقِيكُمْit will surely meet you
فَإِنَّهُ مُلاقِيكُمْIn the second verse:
Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction
أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا يُدْرِكْكُمُ الْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنْتُمْ فِي بُرُوجٍ مُشَيَّدَةٍ) [النساء:٧٨]Here it says: THAT IS WHAT YOU USED TO TURN AWAY FROM [Q:19] meaning: that which you have no escape from.
