Impure Animals and Pure Animals
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! Regarding the forbidden animals, are they impure, and what is required of one who touches them with his hand or his clothing?
Forbidden animals are of two categories: There is a category that has no blood, such as the scorpion, the beetle, the cockroach, and the like. These are not impure, neither in life nor in death. And the evidence for that is: The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that if a fly falls into one’s drink, it should be dipped in and then removed, and then the drink should be consumed. It is known that if it is dipped in hot water, it will die. So the scholars derived from this that every animal that does not have flowing blood is not impure in life and after death.
As for the one that has flowing blood, it is pure in life and impure after death, such as the mouse, the lizard, and the like. This is pure in life, not after death. However, for those that frequently visit people, Allah made it easy for the servants by making them pure in life, such as the cat, the mouse, and the like. These are pure in life and impure after death. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that if a mouse falls into oil, it should be thrown out along with what is around it. The impure part of an animal is impure with a severe impurity, such as the dog. Its impurity is severe. If it drinks from a vessel, it is obligatory to wash it seven times, one of which with soil.
So the summary now: Every animal that is forbidden to eat is impure in life and after death, except for what does not have flowing blood, which is pure in life and after death. And what has flowing blood is impure in life and after death, except for the one that frequently visits people, which is pure in its life and impure in its death.
The questioner: If I touched the dog?The Shaykh: Do you know the details now?The questioner: Regarding purity for the one who touched it: If it was impure, do not touch it while you are wet. If you touched it while you were wet, or it was wet, you must wash your hand.
The questioner: And if it is dry, O Shaykh? The Shaykh: It does not harm. If it is dry, it does not harm.
