Are forbidden animals ritually impure or not? And what is obligatory for the one who touches them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. Regarding forbidden animals, are they ritually impure, and what is obligatory for the one who touches them with his hand or his garment?

The Shaykh : Forbidden animals are of two categories. One category has no flowing blood, such as the scorpion, the beetle, the cockroach, and the like. These are not ritually impure, neither in life nor in death. The evidence for this is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that if a fly falls into one’s drink, it should be dipped in and then removed, and the drink should be consumed. Yes, he ordered that it be dipped and then removed, and the water be drunk afterward. It is known that if it is dipped in hot water, it will die. So the scholars derived from this that every animal that does not have flowing blood is pure in life and after death. As for the one that has flowing blood, it is pure in life and ritually impure after death, such as the mouse, the lizard, and the like. These are ritually impure in life and after death. However, regarding those that frequently visit people, Allah made it easy for the servants by making them pure in life, such as the cat, the mouse, and the like. These are pure in life and ritually impure after death. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that if a mouse falls into oil, it should be thrown out along with what is around it. Do you understand now?
As for the ritually impure among animals, some have a severe impurity, such as the dog. Its impurity is severe. If it drinks from a vessel, it is obligatory to wash it seven times, one of which with soil.
So the summary now is: every animal that is forbidden to eat is ritually impure in life and after death, except for what does not have flowing blood, which is pure in life and after death. And what has flowing blood is, as I told you, ritually impure in life and after death, except for the one that frequently visits people, which is pure in its life and ritually impure in its death. Do you understand the detail now? Good.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : What is ritually impure, do not touch it while you are wet. If you touch it while you are wet, or it is wet, you must wash your hand.

The questioner : If it is dry.

The Shaykh : It does not harm if it is dry. It does not harm. Yes.
