Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (The people of 'Ad denied the truth, so how was My punishment and My warnings)]
Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Qamar: 18] This is the second nation among those whose stories Allah has related to us in this noble Surah. 'Ad generally follows the people of Noah, though they may precede them, as in Surah al-Dhariyat. However, the prevailing view is that the story of Noah is the first among the stories of the prophets, because he was the first prophet sent to the people of the earth.
His statement: And they were the people of Hud,As Allah the Exalted said: [Surah Hud: 60] They denied their prophet Hud (peace and blessings be upon him). They were severe and strong, and they boasted of their severity and strength,And they say: [Surah Fussilat: 15] ,Allah the Exalted said: [Surah Fussilat: 15-16] .
He says here:[Al-Qamar 54:18] .
And
It was severe, great, and it took its course. The interrogative form is for magnification, exaltation, and affirmation, indicating that the punishment of Allah was great and that it took its course.
(Warnings) means: His signs were likewise great and took their course. So by what did Allah destroy them? Allah destroyed them with the gentlest of things, which is the wind that fills the horizons, yet a person does not perceive it, because it is soft and gentle, and a person passes through it easily. The place where we are now is full of air, yet we pass through it and do not perceive it. It is one of the gentlest of things.
Allah the Exalted said:
'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
His statement:
The people of 'Ad denied the truth
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌthen away with 'Aad, the people of Hud.
Who is greater than us in strength?
(15) As for 'Aad, they were arrogant upon the earth without right and said, "Who is greater than us in strength?" Did they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs. (16) So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life; but the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.
He says here:
'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
And
