The Ruling on Shortening the Prayer Behind One Who Completes It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A traveling man entered the mosque during the 'Asr prayer and found that the imam had already prayed three rak'ahs. If the imam concludes the prayer, does the traveler stand up and complete the portion of the prayer he missed, or does he shorten the prayer?
He must complete the prayer. If a traveler prays behind one who completes the prayer, it is obligatory for him to complete it, whether he joined the prayer at the beginning or at the end.And the evidence for that is: This is based on the general meaning of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Pray what you catch up with, and complete what you missed",And Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: [What is the matter with the traveling man who prays two rak'ahs while the imam prays four?He said: That is the Sunnah] .
