The Stronger of the Scholars' Views on the Time of the Absolute and Restricted Takbir
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Some students of knowledge have differed regarding the absolute and restricted takbir, as some of them began to recite the restricted takbir after the prayer in the first ten days. And another said: This is not appropriate, because it is not from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as the Companions reported from him that he recited takbir when he finished the Fajr prayer on the Day of 'Arafah when he was not a pilgrim, and on the Day of Sacrifice when he was a pilgrim. In this is the restriction of the restricted takbir to the fact that it is not used after the prayer in its time. Others objected by saying that it is reported in the books that the absolute takbir is prescribed in the mosques, in the markets, and elsewhere?
There is no Sunnah from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this.Meaning: This is a matter of disagreement among the scholars, and the scholars have their own independent legal reasoning in this. And the closest thing that can be said is: The restricted takbir is from the dawn of the Day of 'Arafah until the afternoon of the last day of the days of Tashriq. And the meaning of our saying: It is restricted, meaning: it is included in the dhikr after the prayer. And the meaning is not: We recite takbir from the time of the taslim. In fact, what is prescribed from the time of the taslim is to seek forgiveness three times, and (O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor), and then after that you recite takbir. As for what is before that, it is absolute takbir until the setting of the sun on the last day of the days of Tashriq. Accordingly, it encompasses from the dawn of the Day of 'Arafah to the last of the days of Tashriq, where the absolute and restricted takbir coincide. And before that, from the entry of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, it is absolute. As for the night of the Eid of Ramadan, it is absolute and not restricted. The matter is broad, and praise be to Allah, it is all dhikr. And Allah Mighty and Majestic says: [Al-Nisa: 103] And it is not befitting for there to be dispute among people in this, or litigation, or disturbance of the common people. The matter in this is broad.
