Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (So I swear by the places where the stars fall)]
We begin this session, as is customary, by explaining verses from the Book of Allah the Exalted and Majestic. In the previous session, we concluded with the words of Allah the Exalted:
(75) Then I swear by the setting of the stars, (76) And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great.فَلا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ * وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
[Al-Waqi'ah: 75-76] Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, informs that He swears by the positions of the stars, and the (la) in His saying:
So I swearفَلا أُقْسِمُ
[Al-Waqi'ah: 75] is for emphasis and affirmation, not for negation; because the intended meaning is to affirm the oath, not to negate it.And this is like His saying, the Exalted:
I do not swear by this cityلا أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ
[Al-Balad: 1] ,and His saying, the Exalted:
I swear by the Day of Resurrectionلا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
[Al-Qiyamah: 1] ,and His saying, the Exalted:
But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believeفَلا وَرَبِّكَ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ
[Al-Nisa: 65] and the like of that, the (la) is brought in the form of negation, but the intended meaning is affirmation and emphasis. And the oath: Affirming a thing by mentioning something exalted with specific particles, and she: the waw, the ba, and the ta,And his statement:
By the places where the stars fall.بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ
[Al-Waqi'ah: 75] The scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, differed regarding this.So some of them said: That the intent is the times of the descent of the Qur'an.Meaning: That the Qur'an was revealed in parts, and a thing that is divided is called a star (munjam), just as it is said of a debt paid in installments over years or months,It is said: that it is a divided debt.

And it was said that the intent of the places where the stars fall is: The places of rising and setting, because the places of their setting are a sign of the day, and the places of their rising are a sign of the night. The alternation of night and day is among the great, major signs of Allah, among the great signs of Allah that none can do except Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Thus, Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, swore by what indicates the coming and going of the night.

And it was said: The intent of the places where the stars fall is the constellations (anwa'), and they used to exalt them in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance.Until they used to say: That the rain descends with the constellation. And they say: We rained with such and such a constellation.

And the important point is that Allah the Exalted swore by the places where the stars fall regarding one of the greatest matters, which is His saying:
Indeed, it is a noble Qur'anإِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ
[Al-Waqi'ah: 77] But Allah clarified the greatness of this oath before clarifying what was sworn upon.So he said: And it is indeed a great oath,And He brought the interjected sentence in His saying: if you only knew. This is a reference to the fact that we must be attentive to this oath and its greatness so that we have knowledge of it.
