Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And every thing they did is in the registers)]
Then He, the Exalted, said: [Al-Qamar: 52] (Every) is the subject and (in the registers) is its predicate, and this is not from the category of the occupied verb, but it is a pure predicate,Meaning: that (Every) cannot be the object of (they did), but it is the subject in all cases, and in the registers is the predicate,Every thing they did meaning: whether it was done by the previous nations, or the later nations, it is written (in the registers) meaning: in the books, and the writing of deeds is a prior writing and a subsequent writing. The prior writing is a writing that this will be done, and this writing does not result in reward or punishment; because the person has not yet been obligated with it. The subsequent writing is the writing that he did it, so if a person does a good deed, Allah writes it, if he does an evil deed, Allah writes it, and this subsequent writing is what results in reward and punishment.
And with what we have established, the difficulty for some people regarding the saying of Allah Blessed and Exalted is removed: [Muhammad: 31] for some people may find this verse difficult,How does He Mighty and Majestic say: (Until We know) and He already knows,Meaning: the knowledge that results in reward, as for the prior knowledge of Allah, it does not result in reward or punishment.
So every thing they did in the registers meaning: Every thing they did is written,The prior writing: the writing that he will do such and such, and the subsequent writing is the writing that he did it, so what is the writing that results in punishment or reward, the prior or the subsequent? The subsequent, as for the prior writing, Allah the Exalted and Sublime wrote in the Preserved Tablet every thing,As came in the authentic hadith: (Indeed, when Allah created the Pen, He said to it: Write,He said: My Lord, and what do I write? He said: Write what is to be until the Day of Resurrection) So it flowed in that hour with what is to be until the Day of Resurrection: (So what strikes a person was not to miss him, and what missed him was not to strike him) We believe in this,Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Hajj: 70] And He said Mighty and Majestic: [Al-Anbiya: 105] The subsequent writing: is that Allah the Exalted and Sublime, when a person does a deed, writes this,Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Infitar: 9-11] And this writing is what results in reward and punishment.
[Al-Qamar 54:52] The meaning of the verse: that every thing a person does is written, so do not think that anything will be lost for you ever,As Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: [Al-Kahf: 49] Glory be to Allah! After hundreds of years that no one knows except Allah, they find it present: [Al-Kahf 18:49] .
Then He, the Exalted, said:
And everything they did is in written records.
وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِي الزُّبُرِAnd with what we have established, the difficulty for some people regarding the saying of Allah Blessed and Exalted is removed:
And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah] and the patient
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ حَتَّى نَعْلَمَ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَالصَّابِرِينَSo every thing they did in the registers meaning: Every thing they did is written,The prior writing: the writing that he will do such and such, and the subsequent writing is the writing that he did it, so what is the writing that results in punishment or reward, the prior or the subsequent? The subsequent, as for the prior writing, Allah the Exalted and Sublime wrote in the Preserved Tablet every thing,As came in the authentic hadith: (Indeed, when Allah created the Pen, He said to it: Write,He said: My Lord, and what do I write? He said: Write what is to be until the Day of Resurrection) So it flowed in that hour with what is to be until the Day of Resurrection: (So what strikes a person was not to miss him, and what missed him was not to strike him) We believe in this,Allah the Exalted said:
