The ruling on waiting for the second congregation for one who caught the tashahhud with the first congregation
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: If a man enters the mosque knowing that there is a congregation behind him, and he finds the imam in the tashahhud, does he join him based on the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Pray what you catch”, or does he wait for the second congregation, and which is better?
It is better to wait for the second congregation.By the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Whoever catches a rak'ah of the prayer has caught the prayer”. So the one who did not catch anything but the tashahhud has not caught the congregational prayer according to the meaning of the hadith: “Whoever catches a rak'ah of the prayer has caught the prayer”. And he is now certain, or it is most likely in his opinion, that he will find a congregation.
But the consideration remains: Does the second congregation receive the reward of the congregational prayer, which is twenty-seven degrees? They do not receive it, but the congregation is better than praying alone.Based on the hadith of Abu ibn Ka'b: “The prayer of a man with another man is purer than his prayer alone, and his prayer with two men is purer than his prayer with one man, and the more there are, the more beloved it is to Allah”.
The questioner: But what is the ruling if they join the first congregation and they appoint one of them to lead them in prayer? The Shaykh: The matter remains to be considered: did this come from the Salaf? For this reason, one of the two positions in the madhhab of Imam Ahmad is: that the masbuq (one who joins the prayer late) is not valid as an imam or a ma'mum (one praying behind the imam), and that each of the masbuqin makes up his prayer alone.
