Ruling on an Elderly Person Who Shortens the Recitation of Some Verses
A question regarding the elderly Bedouins: when they recite verses, they drop one verse and bring in another, and they add or subtract a word. And if you go to speak to them, they are stubborn with you.For example: I have an old man who puts up pictures of the elders, and even the ignorant person takes from him, and he has no knowledge in this matter. What is the ruling on this?
Hanging up pictures is forbidden. If Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was younger than his father, and this is the situation,He advises him and says to him:
O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to youيَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي قَدْ جَاءَنِي مِنَ الْعِلْمِ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِكَ
[Maryam:43] Look at the elevated style,He did not say: "O my father, you are ignorant!" If he had said: "You are ignorant," he would not have accepted it from him. But he said to him:
there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to youقَدْ جَاءَنِي مِنَ الْعِلْمِ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِكَ
[Maryam:43] meaning: You are knowledgeable, but I am more knowledgeable than you, and he called him,So say to your father: "O my father!" No, Ibrahim al-Khalil called his father, and he was younger than his father. And I, if I wish, can ask any person from the scholars who are trusted, or otherwise send him a book to answer in writing.

The questioner: Reciting verses incorrectly,For example: He does not say: "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind" he reads directly, and he reads incorrectly? The answer is that it is not obligatory to stop at every verse,As long as he says:
(1) Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, (2) The Sovereign of mankind.قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ * مَلِكِ النَّاسِ
[Al-Nas:1-2] Allah says:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[Al-Taghabun:16] You teach them, and your conscience is cleared.

The questioner: Is there anything upon them?Answer: No.
There is nothing upon them as long as this is their ability. But you teach them – if Allah wills – may Allah reward you with good.
