The Ruling on Selling a Satellite Dish to Benefit from Its Price

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A person passed away and he had a reception dish (a receiver with the dish) What is the ruling on selling it—O Shaykh—and placing it in a mosque garden or a street; is it not better than breaking it, O Shaykh?
Who is he selling it to?The questioner: To any person who uses it.And originally, it is sold in the market, O Shaykh! The Shaykh: Who is he selling it to?The questioner: To any person.

The Shaykh: That is not permissible.

The questioner: It is available in the market, O Shaykh! The Shaykh: Even if it is found in the market.

The questioner: The one who buys it buys it from this person or from another person.

The Shaykh: That is not our concern.

The questioner: Do you not see, O Shaykh, that breaking it is a waste of money? The Shaykh: It is not a waste of money because it is forbidden. If he sells it to a person and he uses it for something forbidden, then this seller is assisting him in it, is that not so? Answer.

The questioner: Well, what if he sells it to a disbeliever, O Shaykh? The Shaykh: Listen, O man! Do not try to divert the issue. If he sells it to a person and he uses it for something forbidden, is he assisting him or not?The questioner: Yes, he is assisting him.

The Shaykh: Is cooperation in sin forbidden in your religion or permissible? The questioner: Forbidden.
Do you see breaking it, O Shaykh? The Shaykh: I see breaking it, yes. Except if a person comes whom you know is a pious man, that he fears evil, and that he will benefit from it by watching permissible films, then perhaps we would say there is nothing wrong with it. And destroying money for the sake of benefit is permissible. Is not the one who exaggerates in jihad from the war spoils—does he not burn his tent? He burns his tent. If it were even a car, he would burn it.

Did not Sulayman (peace be upon him), when the horses were presented to him until the sun set, say: Return them to me? So he castrated them and killed them. So it is destruction, but for the sake of benefit.
