The Shaykh: ... At that time, one in the hundred today, the deception is a hundred in the hundred.
The student: Ah, we have been relieved from it, a blessing, hey, praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh: The deception is ninety-nine in the hundred, so now the deception is a hundred in the hundred ... from the Wise Lawgiver. And this adornment that many of our young people are upon, who do not fall into the previous violation, meaning they do not shave but let it grow, however, some of the letting grow, and the truth is that the complete letting grow prescribed in the Sunnah is not from the guidance of the righteous predecessors to lengthen the beard no matter how long it gets. This is a common misconception in some Islamic countries, and this is an error. Opposing this error is the error of shaving, which is widespread in most Islamic countries. The truth is between this and that: letting the beard grow and leaving it to lengthen, except for what exceeds a handful, in which case that is taken. This is what is established practically from the righteous predecessors, at the head of whom is the most devoted of the Companions to following the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), namely Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab. Then it was confirmed from Abu Hurayrah, and then it was confirmed from a group of the Companions, as Ibrahim ibn Yazid al-Nakha'i says, and it was confirmed from Mujahid ibn Jabr al-Makki, and so on. So it is incumbent upon us to let the beard grow, and it is not permissible for us to lengthen it more than a handful. They have become ten minutes, Professor.
