Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, a question, a question, O Shaykh: A brother from Libya, of course, how are you first?

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you.

The questioner : My brother's question is when a person's parents force him to abandon the Sunnah and abandoning the mosque out of their concern for him, is it permissible for him to obey them or not?

The Shaykh : Abandon what?

The questioner : Abandoning the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and abandoning prayer in the mosque out of their concern for him from what?!

The Shaykh : What is the Sunnah that he means?

The questioner : Adhering to the Sunnah of the beard, the lower garment, the outer garment, the miswak, and so on from this.

The Shaykh : The beard is not a recommended practice but it is obligatory.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So they should not be obeyed.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : They should not be obeyed.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And prayer in the mosque with the Muslim congregation is also obligatory.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So they should not be obeyed, but as for what is truly a recommended practice, meaning the Muslim is given the choice between doing it and leaving it, then they should be obeyed.

The questioner: Yes, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And therefore, it is obligatory to know the distinction between the recommended practice and the obligatory duty, it is clear.

The questioner: Yes, may Allah reward you with good.
