A man who has money and bought land with it for the purpose of trade: is zakah due on it?

The questioner : My teacher, a man has money and bought land with it for the purpose of trade. What is the ruling on zakah?

The Shaykh : There is no zakah on it.

The questioner : Okay, what if the land remains for one year, two years, three years, or more or less?

The Shaykh : What Allah willed, let it remain. If he sells it and then hoards its value and a lunar year passes over it, then zakah becomes obligatory. That is, two conditions are required for wealth on which zakah is obligatory.
