The First Condition: That It Be Sincere for Allah the Exalted.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The first condition is that it be sincere for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), free from any showing off, seeking fame, or catering to any creation, and free from seeking wealth. Rather, it must be driven solely by sincerity to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). A person does not seek anything with his repentance except the Face of his Lord and the Hereafter; he does not desire anything from this world at all. If it is not sincere, it is not accepted. The evidence is the statement of Allah the Exalted:
So invoke Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion
[Ghafir 40:14]
And Allah the Exalted said to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
So worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion.
[Az-Zumar 39:2]
And Allah the Exalted said:
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion
[Al-Bayyinah 98:5]
And constantly passing through us in the Qur'an and the Sunnah is the phrase "one who did such-and-such seeking thereby the Face of Allah,"
And those who are patient, seeking the countenance of their Lord, and establish prayer
[Ar-Ra'd 13:22]
And whoever says "There is no god but Allah" seeking thereby the Face of Allah, Allah will make him forbidden to the Fire
Sincerity is essential. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So, whoever migrated for Allah and His Apostle, then his migration will be for Allah and His Apostle, and whoever migrated for worldly benefits or for marrying a woman, then his migration will be for what he migrated for.
Sahih al-Bukhari 2529
