Speaking on the condition of sincerity.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The second condition is that the Muslim must be sincere to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in every act of worship in which he worships Allah, seeking nothing behind it from the matters of this world. He does not desire behind it fame, showing off, or display. Rather, it is as our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion
[Al-Bayyinah 98:5]
. Sincerity, O my brothers, is following the Sunnah in righteous action. If following the Sunnah is lacking, the action is invalid. If the intention is sincere along with following the Sunnah, the action is accepted by Allah. If sincerity is lacking, even if the action is in accordance with the Sunnah, it is rejected, as you heard from His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion
[Al-Bayyinah 98:5]
. I want to bind ourselves in this moment to a report from the authentic hadiths, which al-Bukhari and Muslim included in their authentic collections, and which is mentioned in some treatises that collected some hadiths, such as the treatise of Imam al-Nawawi known as the Forty Nawawi. The first hadith in this blessed treatise, if Allah wills, is the first hadith in "Sahih al-Bukhari."
Actions are only إنما
Al-Bukhari began his authentic book with the following hadith, and Imam al-Nawawi followed him in that in his Forty, as I mentioned to you earlier that sincerity in righteous action is a condition; if its presence in the righteous action is lacking, the action becomes a bad action, rejected and not accepted by Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). What is this hadith? I think there is no one among you who has not heard this hadith. So first, I remind you of it, for the reminder benefits the believers, and second, I explain to you a portion of what came in this authentic hadith, which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The (reward of) deeds, depend upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for the sake of Allah and His Apostle, then his emigration will be considered to be for Allah and His Apostle, and whoever emigrated for the sake of worldly gain or for a woman to marry, then his emigration will be considered to be for what he emigrated for.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6689
. This hadith meets in one of its aspects with the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in His Qur'an:
So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone." فَمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
. The exegetes said:
let him do righteous work
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
, meaning in accordance with the Sunnah which I explained to you earlier.
and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone." وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
; meaning: let him be sincere in this righteous action to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and not seek behind this righteous action anything other than the Face of Allah, so that he would have associated other than Allah with Allah in his worship. Even if this worship is in accordance with the Sunnah, it will not be accepted and will not be raised to the sky as long as the sincerity, which is the second condition in the righteous action, has not been stipulated or realized in this righteous action.
