Understanding the Qur'an from the approved books of tafsir.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : So, my brother, pay attention to the Noble Qur'an to understand its meaning, either from the approved books of tafsir whose authors are trustworthy, such as the tafsir of Ibn Kathir, al-Qurtubi, the tafsir of Shaykh Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa'di, Shaykh Abu Bakr al-Jaza'iri, Shaykh al-Shawkani, and similar trustworthy tafsirs, as well as the tafsir of al-Baghawi. Read them and benefit from them. If something is difficult for you, you have the scholars, and praise be to Allah. Contacting scholars now is easier than before. In the past, a man would pack his saddlebags and carry his provisions to travel to a scholar's country to ask him about a single issue. Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) traveled to Madinah, a month's journey, for a single hadith, just one hadith! But now, contact is easy. You just have to pick up the phone, dial the scholar's number, and ask. This does not mean that the scholar has his phone open and is ready to accept calls all the time, because if he stayed that way, he would not sleep at night, nor eat lunch, nor eat dinner. But there must be specific times. So now, contact is easy. Is it possible by proxy? You say: "So-and-so, ask for me about such and such." Is that permissible? Yes. It is permissible. Some of the Companions used to appoint others to ask about knowledge. Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the ruling on pre-seminal fluid, so he asked him. But the person you appoint must be understanding, aware, and a good memorizer. If you send someone who is not understanding, who understands your issue in one way and asks the scholar about it in another way, and then the scholar answers him and he understands the scholar's answer in yet another way, all three aspects will be wrong. This is not acceptable. The person you send must be understanding, aware, and a good memorizer. And if he is not a good memorizer, there is something to preserve the scholar's words. What is it? A recorder. Give him a recorder if you do not trust him, and this may happen. So you yourself record the question and say: "So-and-so, go to such and such a Shaykh, present him this question, and record his answer." And in this way, the objective is achieved. So now I say: Strive to understand the words of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), because the principle is understanding the meaning, and no action can be taken without understanding the meaning, absolutely. And as I mentioned to you, reviewing the tafsir. And whoever cannot review it himself, who should he review it with? The scholars. But not every scholar is trustworthy, and not every tafsir that is written is trustworthy. The scholar must be trustworthy in his knowledge and his understanding of the Book of Allah.
