What is sufficient for the 'Id sacrifice and what is recommended for the one who sacrifices.

The Shaykh : Know that one sheep is sufficient for a man and his household; there is no need for each person to sacrifice individually. Rather, the man sacrifices on behalf of himself and his household. A camel or a cow is sufficient for seven sheep. So if seven households share in a she-camel and slaughter it as an 'Id sacrifice, with each of them sacrificing on behalf of himself and his household for his seventh share, this is permissible, because the seventh share corresponds to one sheep. Likewise, if it is a cow, it is sufficient for seven people who sacrifice; if seven households come together and buy a cow and slaughter it as an 'Id sacrifice, with each one sacrificing on behalf of himself and his household, that is sufficient. Let it be known that if a person intends to sacrifice and enters the ten days—the ten days of Dhul Hijjah—he must not take anything from his hair, his nails, or his skin. The skin is the skin of the body, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade doing so. Until when? Until he sacrifices. If he is unable to sacrifice except on the second day of the days of the festival, we say: wait until you sacrifice. If he is unable to sacrifice except on the third day, we say: wait until you sacrifice. This applies to the one who sacrifices himself. As for the one who is sacrificed for, he is not prohibited from doing so. Accordingly, the man who sacrifices on behalf of himself and his household: the ruling of prohibition regarding taking hair, nails, and skin is specific to whom? To the man alone. As for his household, there is no blame on them. The evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 3149Sahih (Darussalam) and he did not say: "or the one who is sacrificed for." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sacrifice on behalf of himself and his household, and he did not prevent his household from taking from their hair, nails, and skin. As for the statement of some jurists (may Allah have mercy on them): "It is forbidden for the one who sacrifices or the one who is sacrificed for," that is a weak statement. The correct view is that it is specific to the one who sacrifices only. And Allah grants success.
