Allah tested this Ummah by the prohibition of hunting while in the state of Ihram, so the game became within the reach of their hands.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this Ummah, Allah tested the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a trial: when a person enters the state of Ihram for Hajj or 'Umrah, hunting becomes forbidden for him, is that not so?
O you who have believed, do not kill game while you are in the state of ihram. يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تقتلوا الصيد وأنتم حرم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:95]
Allah the Exalted intended to test the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), so Allah sent them game that was within the reach of their hands and their spears. The game that runs on its legs, such as rabbits and gazelles, became something they could catch with their hands. The flying game, which could only be reached with arrows, became something they could reach with their spears.
O you who have believed, Allah will surely test you through something of the game that your hands and spears [can] reach يا أيها الذين آمنوا ليبلونكم الله بشيء من الصيد تناله أيديكم ورماحكم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:94]
The wisdom is
that Allah may make evident those who fear Him unseen ليعلم الله من يخافه بالغيب
[Al-Ma'idah 5:94]
Did the Companions, while in the state of Ihram, catch this game with their hands or reach it with their spears? Absolutely not. Not one of the Companions took any game or resorted to a stratagem to obtain it. And by this, you know the difference between the elite of this Ummah and the Children of Israel.
