The questioner : He says: Your Eminence! Allah swears by the morning, and by the dawn, and by the night. What is the operative cause for "al-Asr" here to mean "the age"? Is there any indication pointing to this? Please benefit us; may Allah benefit you and protect you from the Fire?
The Shaykh: The indication for this is that the meaning of "al-Asr" as "the age" is that Allah the Exalted mentioned the thing by which He swore, which is the deeds of the servants that occur in this age
(1) By time, (2) Indeed, mankind is in loss, (3) Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
