What is the whisper of the self for which a person is held accountable, and what is the whisper of the self for which he is not held accountable?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says: O honorable Shaykh, what is the whisper of the self for which a person is held accountable, and what is the whisper of the self for which he is not held accountable?

The Shaykh : The whisper of the self for which a person is held accountable is that to which he leans, believes, and is certain. This is what he is held accountable for. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the one who finds something of these whispers in himself to seek refuge in Allah, and what else? He should stop and cut off the thinking about it. But if he leans toward the thing and believes it, then he becomes sinful according to what his self has whispered to him. And a person finds the difference between a thought that occurs to his mind and which he leaves, and a fixed thing that settles in his mind. Yes.
