What is the ruling on purchasing a television screen to use for education, entertaining the children, and watching animals?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on purchasing a television screen to use solely for displaying video films of an educational nature or about the animal world, for the home and the children? And are the images displayed on it considered among the images that prevent the angels from entering the house?

The Shaykh : I see no harm in this if he buys a television for this purpose, but who can guarantee that this television will remain used for this purpose only? However, I think—and I do not know if any of you has knowledge of this—I think there is a screen device that is not suitable for television but is suitable for video. If this is found, there is comfort in it. If this is found and films are displayed on it that contain benefit and utility, there is no harm. This is not from the category of images that prevent the angels from entering the house in which they are, because the tapes—video tapes—do not contain images. No matter how you look, you will not find images in them, and they are not visible. And distracting the household with this is better than them going to the neighbors or relatives and staying up late watching the television with what it contains of good and evil. Yes.
