Allah has decreed upon me, and I was involved in an accident last year, and I was unable to fast the month of Ramadan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He says this: An interjected phrase.

The questioner : Allah has decreed upon me, and I was involved in an accident last year, and I was unable to fast the month of Ramadan. At that time, I expected that after two or three months, Allah the Exalted would grant me health, and then I would fast. Now, I am unable to fast, as I am still confined to my bed and cannot move. Therefore, I ask for guidance regarding the expiation with food. Is it sufficient to feed a family a bag of rice, for example, containing forty-five kilograms, because it is difficult for us to give to each poor person individually? Please note that there is a poor family in our neighborhood, and their father has a debt, and he has many children. Is the expiation sufficient if we give it to them in one lump sum? And how many bags of rice does the expiation amount to?

The Shaykh : I ask Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, to heal our brother the questioner and grant him health, to grant him patience and the reward for enduring the trial, and to make what befell him an elevation in his ranks and an expiation for his sins. As for the subject of the question, we say: He must feed one poor person for every day. It is not necessary to give to each poor person individually. If, for example, there are ten poor people in a house, he gives them what is sufficient for ten, one kilogram of rice for each person, and includes some meat to serve as a side dish. Then he looks to another house with ten people and gives to them, and then to a third house with ten people and gives to them, and by doing so, his obligation is fulfilled. If, for example, he is in a small village and cannot find thirty people, there is no harm in repeating the giving to those present on different days until he completes thirty.
