The questioner : The questioner says: O honorable Shaykh, some people, may Allah guide them, when the khatib is delivering the sermon, they are outside the mosque talking, and even laughing while the khatib is preaching. They continue doing this outside the mosque until the iqamah is called, then they enter the mosque without having heard the sermon, knowing that they do this for the Friday prayer?
The Shaykh : Yes. This is forbidden for them. It is not permissible for a person, when he hears the adhan that is called when the imam arrives, to delay. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9] He commanded to hasten to the remembrance of Allah and commanded to abandon selling, even though there is benefit in selling. So how much more so when there is no benefit? Furthermore, it is obligatory for them, when they hear the khatib with whom they intend to pray, to listen, whether they are in the mosque or outside it. If they do not do so, they are deprived of the reward of Friday. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 1110Sahih (Darussalam) And he said: So these people: when the imam arrives, they should enter the mosque and pray two rak'ahs, even if the mu'adhdhin is calling the adhan. Then they should sit to listen to the sermon.
The Shaykh : Yes. This is forbidden for them. It is not permissible for a person, when he hears the adhan that is called when the imam arrives, to delay. Allah the Exalted said:
