What is prescribed for one who enters the mosque while the imam is delivering the sermon?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From Tripoli, Libya. This is a message sent by the listener Faraj 'Isa Za'iq. He has two questions. In his first question, he says: If I enter the mosque on Friday while the imam is delivering the sermon, should I sit down, or should I pray two rak'ahs? And what is the evidence for this?

Answer:
The Sunnah, my brother, is to pray two rak'ahs before you sit down, even if the imam is delivering the sermon. This is based on what is established in Sahih Muslim from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
When any one of you comes on Friday, while the Imam delivers the sermon, he should observe two rak'ahs and should make them short.إذا جاء أحد المسجد والإمام يخطب فليركع ركعتين؛ وليتجوز فيهما
Sahih Muslim 875g
This means: he should shorten them in a way that does not prevent tranquility. This is how he (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded it; he commanded the one who enters while the imam is delivering the sermon to pray two rak'ahs, but not to prolong them, so that he performs the Sunnah and is able to hear the sermon. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
