Reflections on Surat al-Tariq.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and the Imam of the righteous, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows: This is the first of the monthly gatherings held in the Great Mosque of Unaizah on the night of the third Sunday of every month. This is the first month of the year 1418.
O my brothers: When we reflect and contemplate on the nights, days, hours, and moments, we find that they pass by swiftly, as if snatched from before us. Yet, despite this, we do not hold ourselves accountable for what we have done in these days that pass with such speed. Is there any among us who holds himself accountable every day for what he has done? What acts of obedience to Allah has he performed? What of the prohibitions of Allah has he avoided? So that he may rectify what is corrupt and add to what he has built. This is because a person traverses this worldly life stage by stage, hour after hour, indeed, moment after moment. Then, lo and behold, his course has ended and his news has ceased. As the poet said:
"While a man sees in it a report *** until he sees a report from the reports".
But the believer, when he reflects on himself and his solitude, increases in enthusiasm and strength in the obedience of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). I ask Allah to grant me and you the ability to seize the times with righteous deeds. Our topic tonight is to speak about what we have heard, or rather, what I recited and you heard, from the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):[At-Tariq 86:1-2] to the end of it.
