Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (And the sky and the star that comes at night)
Allah the Exalted and Sublime says: [Al-Tariq: 1-3] .
Here—as you see—there is an oath by which Allah the Exalted swore, namely the sky, and likewise the star that comes at night.
It may be difficult for some people to understand how Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, swears by created things, whereas swearing by created things is shirk (associating partners with Allah).By the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Whoever swears by other than Allah has committed disbelief or shirk) ,And his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: (Whoever is swearing, let him swear by Allah or remain silent) .
Therefore, it is not permissible to swear by other than Allah; not by the prophets, not by the angels, not by the Ka'bah, not by the homeland, and not by any of the created things.
And the answer to this difficulty is that we say: Indeed, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has the right to swear by whatever He wills of His creation, and His swearing by what He swears by from His creation indicates the greatness of Allah, Mighty and Majestic; because the greatness of the created indicates the greatness of the Creator.
And Allah the Exalted has sworn by many things from His creation, and the best person I have seen speaking on this topic is Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him).In his book: [He wrote] Al-Tibyan fi Aqsam al-Quran, which is a good book that benefits the student of knowledge greatly.
So here, Allah the Exalted swears by the sky, and the sky is everything that is above you; everything that is above you is a sky, even the clouds from which rain descends are called a sky,As Allah the Exalted said: [Ar-Ra'd: 17] , and if it is applied to everything that is above you, then it includes what is between the sky and the earth, and it includes all the heavens; because they are all above and over you.
And as for His saying: Rather, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, explained it by His saying: [Al-Tariq: 3] , this is the star that comes at night, and the star here may mean all the stars, so the (al) is for the genus,And it is possible that it is the piercing star, meaning: the shining star,Meaning: strong in its shine; because it pierces the darkness with its light, and in any case, these stars are among the signs of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, indicating the perfection of His power; in their movement, their order, their difference in shapes, and their difference in benefits as well.
Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said: [An-Nahl: 16] .
And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Mulk: 5] So they are an adornment for the sky, and stones to throw at the devils, and signs by which they are guided.
Allah the Exalted and Sublime says:
(2) And what can make you know what is the night comer? (3) It is the piercing star -
