We observe in recent times that coldness is shown by some of the righteous, among students of knowledge and young people, who pass by you without greeting you

The questioner : The honorable Shaykh says: We observe in recent times that coldness is shown by some of the righteous, among students of knowledge and young people, who pass by you without greeting you, or who limit their greeting to those they know only. Is there any advice, especially for the young people in front of you, so that they may be a role model for people and not pass by anyone without greeting them, whoever they may be?

The Shaykh : Yes, there is no doubt that the perfection of righteousness lies in a person doing what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) guided us to. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
By him in whose hand my soul is, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another: should I not guide you to something doing which you will love one another: spread out salutation among you. والله لا تدخلوا الجنة حتى تؤمنوا، ولا تؤمنوا حتى تحابوا، أفلا أخبركم بشيء إذا فعلتموه تحاببتم؟ أفشوا السلام بينكم
Sunan Abi Dawud 5193Sahih (Al-Albani)
. Spreading the greeting is part of the perfection of faith, and the perfection of faith is what brings a person into the gardens of Paradise. It is not befitting for a student of knowledge or a committed young man to be cold, not greeting people, and if he does greet, he does so with a stern face, whether they hear it or not. And if he is greeted, he responds or he does not. This is a mistake. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)
He was always cheerful and often smiled كان دائم البشر كثير التبسم
may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him. If he found something that warranted a smile, he would smile. As for his cheerfulness, it was constant; he was always cheerful, always happy. There is no doubt that if your brother meets you while he is happy, with a broad face, his countenance shining, there is no doubt that he adds this joy to you. And the opposite is the opposite.
So I repeat my advice to my brothers, the students of knowledge, first, and to my committed brothers, second, and to Muslims in general, third, that they spread the greeting among themselves if they want the perfection of their faith and want to reach the gardens of bliss. We all want to reach that. But we must take the means. So my advice is: that they spread the greeting among themselves. The committed young people and the uncommitted. If a person meets you and greets you, and even if you see some deficiency in his religion, you are pleased with him. You say, "This one is close." And you strive to advise him and bring him closer, and the opposite is the opposite.
Yes.
