The questioner : Your eminence, in our prayer for the eclipse with your eminence, we heard the following from you: the takbir before the prayer. You said: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah. Second: you repeated the recitation of some verses in the prayer. Is this a prescribed matter? May Allah guide you?

The Shaykh : This indicates to you, my brothers, that people are watching the scholars. I hope to Allah that I am among them. They watch to ask: Why did he say that? Why did he do that? Why did he leave that?
In any case: I am pleased with this. I am pleased that a person asks about something I did that he disapproves of, so that the matter becomes clear. I said the takbir because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Say the takbir كبروا
. And I had not said the takbir when I arrived at the place of prayer. So I remembered it and then said the takbir in obedience to the command of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). This is one point.
As for repeating the verse, it is from the Sunnah, specifically in voluntary prayer, for a person to repeat a verse if he feels that repeating it brings humility to his heart. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the night prayer and came upon this verse:
If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them - indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:118]
. He kept repeating it until morning while he was in his prayer (peace and blessings be upon him). Likewise, some of you may have heard that when I pass a verse of glorification, supplication, or seeking refuge, I glorify, supplicate, and seek refuge, because this is also prescribed in the night prayer, in voluntary prayer. As for the obligatory prayer, the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) have a rule: "What is established in the voluntary is established in the obligatory". Based on this rule, which is also indicated by the Sunnah, we say: even in the obligatory prayer, if you pass a verse where repeating it brings humility, repeat it. But what prevents me from this is that those who described the obligatory prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say that he did so. Therefore, we say: in the obligatory prayer, it is permissible. In the voluntary prayer, it is the Sunnah. Yes.
