The Takbir: Its Evidence, Description, and When It Begins and Ends

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the takbir, Allah the Exalted says, after mentioning fasting:
and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful. ولتكملوا العدة ولتكبروا الله على ما هداكم ولعلكم تشكرون
[Al-Baqarah 2:185]
The description of the takbir is to say: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillah al-hamd. Or one may say: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillah al-hamd. Men recite it aloud in their homes, markets, and mosques. Each person recites it individually, just as the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did, some reciting the takbir and others the tahlil. As for women, they recite it quietly without raising their voices, because a woman is not suitable for raising her voice in such matters. The takbir begins from the setting of the sun on the night of the festival until the prayer of the festival.
