A woman has two sons who go to their friends' houses to watch satellite television and stay until three in the morning
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says: A woman has two sons who go to their friends' houses to watch satellite television and stay until three in the morning. She is afraid of sitting alone in the house. Is it permissible for her to buy them a satellite dish so they stay at home, because they tell her: "If you buy us that, we will stay at home"? She is afraid for them of deviation and accidents? We answered, may Allah guide you?
The Shaykh : By Allah, I have no answer to this, because satellite television is a blazing fire. Is it permissible for me to issue a fatwa that she should bring in satellite television so that she and her children are tempted? This is difficult for me. As for their going to others who have satellite television, advise them and make clear to them its danger to their religion and their thoughts. But I cannot say that acquiring a satellite dish is permissible, because if half of what I hear about it were true, it would be sufficient to be certain of the prohibition of acquiring it. But she should ask Allah the Exalted at the end of the night that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, will rectify her children. And Allah is near and responsive, (Exalted and Majestic is He). And advise them. There is nothing wrong with bringing in a television, but she must condition them that it be only for beneficial matters, such as watching the two Holy Mosques during prayer, news, and terrestrial channels in every place. And we ask Allah to help her in raising them. Yes.
