A Message to Smokers.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And on this occasion, I send a message to those whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has afflicted with smoking: Smoking is forbidden. It has become clear to the scholars, many of them now, that it is forbidden, and that the smoker is disobedient to Allah and His Messenger. If he persists in smoking, he moves from the circle of righteousness to the circle of open sinfulness, becoming an open sinner. The month of Ramadan is a vast arena for those whom Allah wills to guide, so let him abstain from smoking, for the day will pass by him completely without him having smoked. Let him endure and be patient through the night, and then the second day will come. After a week has passed, conditions change. It may be difficult for him in the first week, but in what we have followed and investigated, we found that matters which Allah wills to change do change within a week. This is why the 'aqiqah, the sacrifice for the child, is performed? On the seventh day. The week passes, and this develops the matter. Many patients feel the illness and endure it, and after a week the condition changes, either for the worse or for better health. So I say: Those who have been afflicted with smoking will find great and severe hardship in the first week, but let them endure and be patient, for even if the price is high, the commodity is valuable. The price is high; they will find it burdensome and difficult, but the commodity is valuable, and it is that Allah protects them from this foul smoke. And when a week has passed, conditions change, and the second week develops toward the better, and so on. Let not this blessed month end until Allah the Exalted has protected whom He wills of His servants from smoking this foul smoke. However, it remains incumbent upon him to maintain this protection by staying away from those who smoke, so that he does not relapse after having become upright.
