The Ruling on Sitting with Smokers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I am, by the praise of Allah, eager to perform the prayer in the mosque with the congregation. I have purified my house of video devices and burned their films, as well as the picture I had. I also recorded Islamic tapes over the music tapes. Furthermore, I let my beard grow and shortened my garment in accordance with the Muhammadan Sunnah. However, there is one thing that disturbs my life, which is smoking. I have tried and I am trying to quit it, but I have not been able to. What should I do? May Allah reward you with good. What do you advise me? I also ask you to call upon Allah for me to protect me from it.

Answer: Praise be to Allah who guided you to the truth, and helped you to hold fast to it and abandon what contradicts it. We ask for steadfastness for you upon the truth, along with understanding in the religion.
As for smoking, it is obligatory for you to abandon it and beware of it because of its many harms. When you are sincere in that and abandon sitting with smokers, Allah will help you to quit it and be safe from its evil.
So we advise you to have sincere determination and strength in that, and to ask Allah for help in abandoning it in your prostration and in other times, along with abandoning sitting with its companions. Be glad of good and a good outcome. And remember His saying, the Exalted:
Call upon Me; I will respond to you.ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ
[Ghafir: 60], and His saying (peace and blessings be upon him) :
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.وَمَن يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا
[Al-Talaq: 4].
May Allah guide you, and help you to abandon smoking, and keep you steadfast upon the truth; indeed He is the All-Hearing, the Near.
